Beth Himsworth
Always interested in art and drawing, I grew up in Columbus but dreamed of living in far away places. Although I hoped to study art in college, as a teen I was captivated by the physical needs of the poor and studied nursing instead.
Several years of working in a Chicago Intensive Care Unit gave me a unique background and resilience for the challenges of an underdeveloped world. My passion for the poor found expression in vaccination, medical and dental clinics that I supervised in remote villages of the Northern Brazilian Amazon region for nearly 6 years. Another 12 years committed to training in the mountainous “Serra Gaúcha” region of South Brazil brought a completely different culture, climate and experience.
My work draws from life experiences and a love of color. I started painting again in 2001 while living in Caxias du Sul under local painter, Selistino de Oliveira.
In 2007, I became interested in glass and began to develop the stained glass mosaic process that I am currently applying to an increasing number of project styles.
